Since lipid rafts play a role in breast cancer progression and due to the fact that (a) PGRMC1 overexpressing hormone receptor-positive breast cancer cells have higher amounts of cholesterol and that (b) PGRMC1 interacts with FDFT1, we determined the abundance of lipid rafts in MCF7 and MDA-MB-231 cells with PGRMC1 overexpression and respective empty vector control as well as in MCF7 cells treated with siRNAs directed against PGRMC1, to knockdown PGRMC1 (Fig. 4d). Here, FDFT1 is linked to breast cancer.
