ALB and Hypoalbuminemia: However, conflicting results have been reported; for example, while hypoalbuminemia (serum albumin < 3.5 g/dL) has been associated with an increased risk of peri-prosthetic infection [10, 11] and longer than average hospital stay [15, 16] its effect on wound healing is less clear – Marín et al. (2002) [13] reported no significant predictive value of hypoalbuminemia on wound healing, yet Greene et al. (1991) [5] reported a five-fold increase in the frequency of major wound complications.
