CST3 and acute kidney injury: In subjects with AKI, cystatin C was higher among those who died compared to those who survived [1.3(1.0–1.9) mg/L vs. 0.9 (0.7–1.4) mg/L, p < 0.0001], and the same pattern was observed in subjects without AKI [1.1 (0.7–1.7) mg/L vs. 0.8 (0.6–1.0) mg/L, p < 0.0001].
