Notably, we recently demonstrated that sodium/glucose co‐transporter 2 (SGLT2), which is a member of the solute carrier family (SLC5A2) and is important in facilitating sodium‐dependent glucose‐transport and in the regulation of blood glucose levels, was significantly activated in the hearts of insulin‐resistant animals with metabolic syndrome (MetS). This evidence concerns the gene SLC5A2 and metabolic syndrome.
