In blood from a patient with ovarian cancer who had experienced a systemic reaction during intravenous (IV) infusion of paclitaxel over four years previously, ex vivo basophil activation was triggered following incubation with paclitaxel (2.5–25 μg/mL), to a degree comparable to that measured following stimulation with anti-IgE and fMLP (Figure 3C,E). The gene discussed is FPR1; the disease is ovarian carcinoma.
