Stabilization of p53 protein without a stimulus, such as DNA damage, is associated with the loss of function secondary to a mutation or interaction with a viral or cellular oncoprotein.9 A meta-analysis10,11 revealed an association between p53 alterations (overexpression and mutations) and poor overall survival (OS) but not recurrence-free survival (RFS) in breast cancer.
