HILPDA and steatosis: Hypoxia is a hallmark of NAFLD (Anavi, Madar, & Tirosh, 2017) and the HIF target hypoxia‐inducible lipid droplet‐associated protein (HILPDA) gene expression is upregulated during LD growth (Breher‐Esch et al., 2018; Sahini & Borlak, 2016), suggesting low oxygen availability in steatosis is key in reducing FA oxidation and mediating LD growth through HILPDA.
