In our cohort, 16% of patients with NF1 and 25% with NF2 reported being on disability; this is higher than the approximately 5% of residents of the province of Ontario receiving government disability benefits in 2017.30 Additionally, individuals with NF1 may face discrimination based on the cutaneous manifestations of the disease, which may also affect employment rates.
