Specifically, HIV(+) was associated with higher circulating levels of immunoglobulins, inflammatory proteins such as calprotectin (S100 calcium binding protein A8 and S100 calcium binding protein A9), complement proteins, and proteins related to host response to infection (i.e. lipopolysaccharide binding protein, galectin 3 binding protein and CD5 molecule-like protein). This evidence concerns the gene S100A8 and infection.
