In conclusion, the present study shows for the first time that administration of the adeno-associated virus containing glyoxalase-1 driven by the endothelin-1 promoter (AAV2/9-Endo-Glo1) to rats one week after onset of T1DM, attenuated the cardiomyopathy that develops after eight weeks of diabetes. The gene discussed is EDN1; the disease is type 1 diabetes mellitus.
