However, previous work has established that levels of c-MET can impact the phosphorylation of STAT3 (as reviewed in ref. 29), and we show that treatment of cells with HGF, the ligand for c-MET, led to an increase in STAT3 phosphorylation in two of three melanoma cell lines (Supplementary Fig. S3a). The gene discussed is MET; the disease is melanoma.
