First, we developed an integrated approach termed Synaptophyin-Ki-67 Index Estimator (SKIE) (Fig. 1), in which DS WSIs along with their adjacent hematoxylin and eosin (H&E)-stained sections were computationally analyzed to locate tumor cells, automatically detect hot-spots (Fig. 2), and calculate the Ki-67 index from those hot-spots.
