Analyzing the prognostic relevance of p53 in different patient subgroups, we showed—to the best of our knowledge—for the first time that the prognostic role of p53 depends on the localization of the tumor within the stomach with an association of aberrant p53 expression with worse OS in tumors located in the distal and middle third but to a much lesser extent in proximally located tumors. The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is neoplasm.
