SFRP2 and colorectal carcinoma: Glöckner et al. (2009) developed a methylation-specific PCR (MSP) assay for methylated TFPI2, which could detect stage I to III CRC patients with a sensitivity of 76–89% and a specificity of 79–93% with stool samples. Tang et al. (2011) reported a MSP assay for methylated SFRP2, which could detect 84.0% CRC with a specificity of 54.0% with stool DNA. Both methylated TFPI2 and SFRP2 tests employed agarose gel electrophoresis-based MSP approach, not suitable for clinical application.
