COVID-19-induced hyperinflammation is characterized by increased production of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), macrophage inflammatory protein-1-α (MIP1-α), interleukin (IL)-6, IL-2, IL-7, and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor [1], while alveolar macrophages, CD138+ plasma cells, and T lymphocytes are profuse in bronchoalveolar lavage specimens [5].
