In recent years, a few studies have implied the role of PCDH7 in brain function: MeCP2 can bind to the promoter region of PCDH7 and down regulate its mRNA level, suggesting a possible link between PCDH7 and Rett syndrome26; genome-wide association studies (GWAS) show that PCDH7 is linked to epilepsies, is a risk factor for shorter sleep27 and is associated with antipsychotic treatment response in schizophrenia patients28. This evidence concerns the gene PCDH7 and epilepsy.
