Therefore, we tested whether placental MMP15 expression and protein levels are altered by in vitro short‐term exposure to obesity‐associated pro‐ and anti‐inflammatory cytokines (IL‐6, IL‐10, and TNF‐α), as well as by long‐term exposure to the intrauterine environment characteristic of obesity in vivo. Here, MMP15 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
