A study by Levy et al.63has shown that in a mouse model of AMD, mice with human APOE ε4 allele had lower levels of Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1/CCL2) (a major monocyte attractant), less myeloid cell accumulation in the subretinal space, and decreased photoreceptor degeneration. This evidence concerns the gene APOE and age-related macular degeneration.
