Meta‐analysis has shown a highly significant relationship (P = 0.007 OR 1.52) between hospitalization for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) bronchiolitis and possession of a minor allele for a vitamin D receptor polymorphism (Fok1‐f rs2228570) that lowers transcriptional activity of the vitamin D receptor [51]. The gene discussed is VDR; the disease is bronchiolitis.
