HMOX1 and intracranial hemorrhage: It may be that multiple diseases and disease models involving hemorrhage are modulated by the Hmox1-regulating function of Atf1. These may include advanced atherosclerotic plaques,1 intracranial hemorrhage,39 alveolar hemorrhage,40 ischemia-reperfusion injury,41 and neurodegeneration.42,43 Indeed, in humans, ATF1 is a risk locus for sudden cardiac death in the context of coronary calcification.44 Unfortunately, there are no current good models for these, and we are in the process of developing these with collaborators.
