Even though some of the data generated on rat model could not be validated on human samples (e.g., expression profile of FUT1, NLRP6 and NLRC4), the majority (30 out of 33) of the gene expression changes were identical, demonstrating that animal models—in this case TNBS-induced colitis—are still useful tools in deciphering molecular mechanisms underlying human diseases, such as IBD. The gene discussed is NLRC4; the disease is colitis.
