The laboratory findings observed in patients 2 and 3 reflect common risk factors of fatal outcome, namely, lymphopenia; increased D-dimers; evidence of massive systemic inflammation including high levels of CRP, procalcitonin, and IL-6 during acute disease; and in the final stages massive ALT/AST elevation [1, 3, 4, 7, 11, 20].
