IL6 and atherosclerosis: Ang II has proinflammatory properties, including the increase of interleukin (IL)-6, which was demonstrated after infusion of Ang II in healthy controls.58Furthermore, Ang II has been shown to induce IL-6 transcription in VSMC.59In VSMC, the expression of IL-6 could be induced by Ang II,60which may explain the underlying mechanism in the progression of Ang II-induced atherosclerosis.
