In order to investigate the strong association of the obesity-associated (FTO) gene variants and obesity with epigenetic changes, a genome-wide methylation scan in obese and normal weight females identified 20 DM sites in obese females, of which one was hypomethylated site in NBPF3 gene [58]. This evidence concerns the gene NBPF3 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
