IRF2 and cancer: lncRNA XIST, which is known to regulate X-chromosome inactivation by orchestrating the right gene expression on the X chromosome in female mammals [147], and miR-204, involved in arterial hypertension, diabetes, many cancer dysregulated pathways [148] but also fundamental in the development of eyes and adipogenesis [149], are found to show competing crosstalk with interferon regulatory factor 2 (IRF2) in lipo-polysaccharide-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) [114] and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
