In particular, several lncRNAs are known to exhibit abnormal expression in several types of cancers and in brain disorders, like lncRNA HOX transcript antisense intergenic RNA (HOTAIR) that exerts its regulatory roles in cell apoptosis by sponging miR-221 in specific Parkinson’s disease cell lines [141], or in the same context of Parkinson’s disease, like lncRNA MALAT1 (metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1), through its involvement in dendritic and synapse development. This evidence concerns the gene MALAT1 and Parkinson disease.
