MIAT works as a ceRNA in pathological angiogenesis related to diabetes mellitus microvascular dysfunction, by competing with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) for miR-150-5p [116] and, following the same pathway, in neurovascular dysfunction by inducing progressive neuronal loss and Alzheimer’s disease [113]. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
