For instance, downregulation of heat shock factor (HSF) reduces the lifespan and accelerates the formation of protein aggregates in Caenorhabditis elegans carrying mutations in different components of the IGF1R-mediated pathway, while, conversely, inhibition of IGF1R signaling results in HSF activation and promotes longevity by maintaining proteostasis [44], as also verified by our laboratory, in a C. elegans model of Parkinson’s disease treated with natural polyphenol antioxidants derived from olive oil [45,46].
