Transactive response DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43) is known to play a key role in the pathogenesis of canonical TDP-43 proteinopathies such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontal temporal lobar dementia (FTLD) but is also frequently observed in more common neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) including tauopathies, synucleinopathies, and up to 57% of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients (Josephs et al., 2014a; Mishima et al., 2017; Koga et al., 2018; Robinson et al., 2018).
