The fetal circulation during preeclampsia may be associated with an increase in circulating antiangiogenic factors such as sFlt-1 (soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1) and soluble endoglin or reduced expression and activity of proangiogenic signals such as vascular endothelial growth factor or adenosine [57, 58].
