In the pathway alternative to glycolysis, G6P is redirected towards the PPP for macromolecular biosynthesis, and it is converted to 6-phosphogluconolactone by the glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), which was found to be upregulated in HCC [7,12,40,41,42]. The gene discussed is G6PD; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
