TCF21 and hypertensive disorder: Previous studies have shown that TCF21 could reduce the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor P21 expression in MG63 cells, which is essential for VSMCs proliferation (Funato et al., 2003; Bond et al., 2006), and microvascular stenosis caused by abnormal VSMCs proliferation may play a pivotal part in the occurrence and development of hypertension (Feihl et al., 2008), suggesting that TCF21 might modulate blood pressure through p21-dependent microvascular remodeling.
