Histone modification such as HDAC overexpression or altered acetylation levels have been found in prostate, gastric, colorectal, cervical and endometrial cancer (Glozak and Seto, 2007), see also section “HDACS in Epigenetics and Protein Quality Control Systems.” In addition, a negative correlation between HDAC overexpression and overall survival has been described in pancreatic, breast, colorectal, gastric, lung, liver cancer and melanoma (Weichert et al., 2008a; West and Johnstone, 2014; Mottamal et al., 2015; Sarkar et al., 2015). The gene discussed is HDAC9; the disease is melanoma.
