FUT2 and cancer: In addition, the α1,3 FUT gene FUT4 is expressed at higher levels in PaTu-S and may be involved in the synthesis of Lewis X (24), and in combination with FUT1 and FUT2 in PaTu-S in the synthesis of Lewis Y. The observation that higher binding of the lectin LTA, which binds to terminal α1,3 fucose, to PaTu-S than to PaTu-T as well as the specific presence of Lewis X on O-glycans (Supplementary Figure S7D) and GSL-glycans in PaTu-S is also in agreement with our previous reports (24, 25) and supports the expression of these known cancer-associated glycan structures (14) on PaTu-S cells.
