In one study, alcohol consumption and risk of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)–positive and triple-negative breast cancers were compared to risk of estrogen receptor–positive tumors.28 Alcohol consumption was associated with a lower risk of HER2-positive tumors and no difference in the risk of triple-negative tumors, as compared to its association with risk for estrogen receptor–positive tumors. The gene discussed is ESR1; the disease is triple-negative breast carcinoma.
