VIP and schizophrenia: The impetus for our studies were the series of reports showing that micro-multiplications of the VIPR2 gene is associated with schizophrenia (Levinson et al., 2011; Vacic et al., 2011; Yuan et al., 2014; Li et al., 2016; Marshall et al., 2017) and ASD (Vacic et al., 2011; Firouzabadi et al., 2017), and that these mutations were associated in patients with heightened VIP-induced cAMP responsiveness (Vacic et al., 2011).
