To summarize, this manuscript underlines the crucial role of NLRP3 inflammasome activation in the pathogenesis of diseases caused by SARS-CoVs, discusses reported inhibitors of the NLRP3 inflammasome in the context of inflammatory diseases and draws attention toward potential role of these (and similar agents) inhibitors in the treatment of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).
