Despite monocyte subset frequency normally being tightly regulated,14 during a primary subpatent P. falciparum infection, classical (CD14+CD16−) monocyte frequency increased significantly on day 15 and remained significantly elevated at 45 days after infection (Figure 4b), whereas non‐classical (CD14dimCD16+) monocytes showed a corresponding decrease (Figure 4b). Here, CD14 is linked to infection.
