In 2011, in a collaborative European study, the HLA-DRB1*15:01 allele exhibited the strongest association with MS, along with the HLA-DRB1* 03:01 and HLA-DRB1*13:01 alleles [7], although DRB1*15:01 was recently found to be hypomethylated and predominantly expressed in monocytes among carriers of DRB1*15:01, suggesting putative therapeutic strategies targeting methylation-mediated regulation of this major risk gene [8]. Here, HLA-DRB1 is linked to myeloid sarcoma.
