Although the majority of these enzymes are basic glycolytic enzymes that could indicate that an increase in glycolytic activity is occurring, enzymes, such as pyruvate kinase muscle isozyme M2 (PKM2), pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 1 (PDK1), and lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA) have unique roles that are specific to less differentiated cells, such as cancer cells, that are being pushed away from oxidative metabolism. This evidence concerns the gene PKM and cancer.
