PCI deficiency may explain the major hormonal changes found in PWS: GhRH (growth hormone deficiency and short stature); proGnRH (hypogonadism); progrelin (hyperghelinemia); proinsulin (relative hypoinsulinemia and type 2 diabetes mellitus); proopiomelanocortin – POMC (hypocortisolism); and ProTRH (hypothyroidism) ( 4 ). This evidence concerns the gene POMC and Prader-Willi syndrome.
