PINK1 and Abnormal emotional state: In addition, our WB data suggest that long-term, but not short-term psychological distress, elicited a significant increase in the level of mitochondria (TOM20) and antioxidant capacity (Fig. 1) in PINK1-KO-PBMCs, suggesting that oxidative stress induced by the lack of PINK1 and by psychological distress may stimulate mitochondrial biogenesis and a compensatory increase in mitochondrially-derived antioxidants.
