These include CACNA2D3 (FDR 0.00521, fold change 1.55, downregulated in EBV-positive patients) which is a tumour suppressor gene downregulated in primary nasopharyngeal cancer and nasopharyngeal cancer cell lines compared with non-tumourigenic cells15 (EBV is implicated in the pathogenesis of nasopharyngeal cancer) and CDC20 (FDR 0.00451, fold change 1.53, upregulated in EBV-positive patients) which binds to EBV-encoded proteins, activating the mitotic checkpoint and facilitating lytic EBV replication16. Here, CACNA2D3 is linked to nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
