Studies of Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) identified different genetic loci that are likely contributing to the development of EoE and mainly include thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), calpain 14 (CAPN14), EMSY, LRRC32, STAT6 and ANKRD27 (7). These genetic loci are mainly involved in T-helper 2 type inflammation (allergic inflammation) and epithelial barrier function and integrity. Here, CAPN14 is linked to eosinophilic esophagitis.
