A recent study shows that ZEB1, which is mostly known as a transcriptional repressor, could also act as a transcriptional activator by directly interacting with YAP to stimulate the expression of a common set of ZEB1/YAP target genes, including CYR61, which is predictor of metastatic risk and poor survival in aggressive breast cancer [64]. The gene discussed is CCN1; the disease is breast carcinoma.
