On the one hand, circulating levels of some proinflammatory cytokines seem to be directly related to NAFLD progression, such as interleukin (IL)-1β, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, IL-8, monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP)-1, IL-6, IL-13, plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI)-1, and IL-17 [21,22,23,24,25,26]. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
