SYK plays a crucial role in the mechanism for enhanced osteoclast differentiation by the gain‐of‐function mutation in SH3BP2.2, 4 We have also shown that a lack of SYK in LysM‐Cre‐expressing cells rescues homozygous cherubism mice from inflammatory bone destruction.3 These results led us to investigate whether SYK is required for SH3BP2 gain‐of‐function to increase osteoclast function in periodontitis. The gene discussed is SYK; the disease is periodontitis.
