The second aim was to bridge the resiliency-like effect of SST neuronal function seen in the animal depression literature with the alcohol literature, in order to establish whether SST neurons within the prefrontal cortex (PFC), bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST), basolateral amygdala (BLA) and lateral central amygdala (CEA), brain regions known for their role in MDD (Fee et al., 2017) and chronic alcohol exposure (Pleil et al., 2015a) are altered following forced abstinence from alcohol. Here, SST is linked to depressive disorder.
