Because the “D89N” mutation has been detected only in melanoma samples, we also analyzed melanoma RNA-seq data from patients to compare STK19 expression levels in the presence or absence of “D89N.” Although the number of cancer samples is low (n = 8; the full available cohort of TCGA melanoma samples), statistical analysis showed no significant difference in gene expression in patient samples containing “D89N,” for either STK19 or the upstream DXO gene (Figure 4E; p = 0.95 and p = 0.078, respectively, Mann Whitney U test). This evidence concerns the gene DXO and cancer.
