Caused by silencing of the Fragile X Mental Retardation 1 (FMR1) gene, FXS is characterized by intellectual disability with high concomitance for autism spectrum disorders, epilepsy, attentional, executive control and behavioral deficits (Munir et al., 2000a,b; Wilding et al., 2002; Sullivan et al., 2006; Lozano et al., 2014). This evidence concerns the gene FMR1 and autism spectrum disorder.
