TGFB1 and cancer: Cytokines derived by cancer cells, such as TGFβ or IL-10, contribute to the differentiation of tumor-infiltrating immune cells into a tumor-promoting phenotype, including tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and neutrophils (TANs) that can suppress anti-tumor immune response via several mechanisms such as the production of immunosuppressive cytokines or the expression of T cell co-inhibitory molecules.
