BCL2 and cancer: Several agents can cause autophagic cell death in different kinds of cancer, such as IFN-γ, resveratrol, vitamin D analogues, tamoxifen, arsenic trioxide, and actinomycin D. In glioma cell lines, it has been shown that arsenic trioxide can induce autophagy-related cell death by up-regulation of BNIP3 (a member of the Bcl-2 family), as well as its respective homologue BNIP3L.
